A Virginia Tech Carillion employee was recognized during the Hispanic Heritage Month celebration

Richmond, Va. (WBJ) – On Monday night, US Senator Tim Kaine hosted a Hispanic Heritage Month celebration in Richmond. One of the notables was Karina Nevarez, Inclusion Coordinator at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine.

In a press release, the Caine team listed all the work Nevarez has done in the Roanoke Valley.

“Coordinating with the admissions team, Ms. Nevarez is involved in therapy and outreach to underrepresented prospective students throughout the year. She works with the school’s dedicated student organization to design and deliver culturally competent workshops and training for the school’s students, staff and faculty.

“Training paramedics to be better listeners, more empathetic and understanding of different cultures is not only the right thing to do, it also helps patient outcomes,” Kane said.

During the event, Nevarez thanked Kay for the recognition and said how proud she is of his work, but also of her Puerto Rican heritage.

Nevarez also makes “Delicias Boricuas” with her husband and family. You can find the full press release from the Kane team below:

“This Monday, September 26, US Senator Tim Kaine will hold an event in Richmond to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and celebrate the achievements of the diverse Latinos who have done incredible work in Virginia over the past year.

Kaine co-sponsored a resolution to recognize September 15 through October 15 as Hispanic Heritage Month and celebrate the heritage, culture and contributions of Latinos in the United States. He is Spanish-speaking and taught carpentry and welding at a technical school in Honduras as a child.
