At 141 pounds, Tech has two returning rookies and two true freshmen battling for the starting spot.
The first wrestler in the weight class is a true freshman. Tom Crook Tampa, Florida. Crook wrestled for Tampa Jesuit in high school, winning four state titles and becoming the first wrestler in school history to finish his career undefeated.

Crook won the 2021 Grappler Fall Classic, was a 2021 Super 32 placeholder and the 2021 Florida Dairy Farmer Mr. Wrestling Award. Additionally, the 2022 Big Board was number 44 on Intermat Class.
Another true freshman looking to break into the lineup from Simsbury, Connecticut. Zachary Jones. Jones wrestled for Simsbury High School and was one of New England’s top seniors. He made his way to Tech as a state champion and has a 106-18 high school career record.
The next Hokie at 141 pounds is another Florida native who is a redshirt freshman. Preston Walls. In high school, Walls wrestled for Highland Lake Prep in Orlando.
In his redshirt campaign, Walls finished the season 3-4. His season was highlighted by a 2-2 performance at the ARMS Software/GMU Veterans Open.
Tech’s final wrestler at 141 pounds is a redshirt senior. Colin Gerrard. Gerardi is a native of Powhatan, Virginia and has won four 4A state titles and the 2018 NHSCA national title.

Wrestling in his redshirt season at 133 pounds, Gerardi amassed a 17-6 record, went 3-1 in the Hockey Open, 4-2 in the Wolfpack Open and captured the App State Open title.
Gerardi’s season was highlighted by a seventh-place finish in the Southern Scuffle. His two losses were to Air Force’s John Toomey and eventual NCAA All-American and two-time NCAA champion Roman Bravo-Young of Penn State. Both losses were followed by sudden victories.
Gerardi made his first appearance in the starting lineup during his redshirt freshman year and finished the season 14-11. In hockey, he was a key part of No. 14 Quinn Keener’s 7-1 win over third-ranked Ohio State. A highlight of the season was a fifth-place finish at the ACC Championships, which qualified him for the 2020 NCAA Tournament. The 2020 NCAA Championships were canceled that year due to Covid.
As a redshirt sophomore, Gerardi moved up to 141 pounds and went 5-1 on the season. He began the season by pinning Ohio’s Conor McCroon, followed by major decision wins over Virginia’s Dylan Cedeno, West Virginia’s Ryan Sullivan and North Carolina’s Joe Heilman at 133 pounds.
Gerardi returned to the starting lineup at 141 pounds in his redshirt junior campaign and posted a 12-11 record. He was a Southeast Open finalist and qualified for the 2022 NCAA Championships, where he placed fourth at the ACC tournament and went 0-2.
149:
Along with the 2021 Junior World bronze medalist, three-time ACC finalist and 2022 NCAA All-American. Brice Andonia Making the jump to 157 pounds, Tech has two junior Hokies looking to fill the 149 spot.
The first is a true freshman, Caleb Henson, from Woodland High School in Cartersville, Georgia. Ranked No. 1 at 152 pounds, No. 6 pound-for-pound and No. 4 in the 2022 Big Board division coming out of high school, Henson’s resume is nothing short of impressive.

Henson made the state finals three times and won the title twice before signing with Virginia Tech. In addition, he was the 2021 Super 32 Champion, 2021 Floorsling Man #1, two-time UWW Cadet All-American, two-time Fargo Cadet All-American and 2021 Junior National Freestyle Champion.
In addition, Henson has already made a name for himself at the college level. As a high school senior, Henson won the 149-pound open division title at the 2021 Southeast Open NCAA Qualifier with a 12-0 win over Princeton’s Marshall Keller.
It’s the second Tech standout sophomore looking to wear the orange maroon for the Hokies. Keelan Montgomery. From Mascoutah, Illinois, Montgomery was a four-time IHSA state qualifier, placing 4Th In 2019 and 5Th In 2020, for Mascoutah High School. Montgomery was also a two-time state champion and a two-time sectional champion.
Montgomery posted a 2-4 record in his inaugural season with the Hokies. His season was highlighted by a 5-0 decision over Gardner Webb’s Brandon Bright.
