When it comes to hiring IT talent, there are many organizations that look to managed services.

Managed service providers (MSPs) have reason to be optimistic as technology spending continues to remain strong through 2023.

The Spiceworks Ziff Davis (SWZD) 2023 IT Report explores IT budget plans and technology trends. Despite widespread fears of a recession, tech spending in North America and Europe is set to grow by 13 percent year-on-year (YoY).

Additionally, Peter Tsai, head of technology insights at SWZD, said businesses will “shift more of their budgets to managed services.”

As companies struggle to hire IT talent, they look to managed services to maintain and upgrade their technology stacks. “Expenditure on managed services is expected to grow to 18% of total IT budgets by 2023, up from 15% before the pandemic,” he said.

The largest share is managed business applications, managed security, managed hosting and managed hardware support and maintenance.

“This change is good news for MSPs,” Tsai said. “Especially with high-growth offerings like managed security services.”

Organizations with managed IT services budgets will increase from 8 percent in 2021 to an expected 11 percent in 2023. Managed business applications budget will grow from 9% in 2021 to 11% in 2023.

83% of businesses are concerned about a recession, 51% plan to increase their overall IT budget in 2023.

The report highlights the need to modernize infrastructure and prioritize IT projects as key drivers for the budget increase.
