Fashion designer and kumu hula Mika Kamohoali is bringing Hawaii to the stage at three European Fashion Week events this month.
The tour kicks off on September 17, 2022 at the London Fashion Week show, an immersive cultural presentation of All Ali – The Royal Feathers. Kamohoali presents traditional folk arts in a modern fashion in the UK’s Hyde Park in central London.

Dezigns, a one-of-a-kind outfit by Kamohoali, brings Native Hawaii to life with traditional patterns, bold colors, metaphorical imagery and strong cultural symbolism.
On the runway, Kamohoali brought the essence of Hawaii to Europe in a three-part cultural performance featuring Hawaiian runway models (including his immediate family), kapa beating, singing and award-winning vocalists Amy Hanaili, Kainani Kahanale, musician Jeff Peterson; and dancers performing ancient and modern dances from Halau na Kipuupuu.
According to an advance press release, “Kamohoali’s Hawaiian heritage is at the heart of his designs, an art that embraces Hawaii’s natural environments and celebrates its rich heritage.”
His love of art led him to study graphic design, and his family’s heritage in Hawaiian Kapa led him to discover his passion for fashion. Kapa, ​​a soft shell garment, is an artisan tradition that dates back to ancient Hawaii and is now considered a rare art form. The process of making kapan involves collecting the bark and beating it to loosen the fibers, and the result is a wonderfully soft fabric that creates a unique look in bold patterns.

Kamohoali’i has opened its first two new stores on the island of Oahu in the Pearlridge Center downtown area and the Windward Mall in Kane’ohe.
