The New York Fashion Gods Have Spoken: Next Year’s Met Gala Theme Will Focus on 2018 It is based on the work of German designer Karl Lagerfeld, who died in 2019 at the age of 85.
As usual, the invitation-only event will be held on the first Monday in May (this year it will be May 1) at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
According to an official press release, the selection of the theme coincides with a major new exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute focusing on the fashion guru. “Karl Lagerfeld: The Beauty Line” will be on display from May 5 to July 16, 2023 and will highlight the designer’s style vocabulary as defined by the lines. The show will be hosted by the institution’s chief curator, Andrew Bolton.

We wonder what the celebrities in attendance will wear to show off the theme, and we imagine the red carpet will be invaded by Chanel, Balmain, Patou, Fendi and Chloé, all the houses Lagerfeld has worked with in his illustrious career.
