SAULT STE. Marie, me. – The Michigan Tech volleyball team picked up win number 10 of the season with a 3-0 win over Lake Superior State. The Huskies beat the Lakers for the 24th straight time at Bud Cooper Gymnasium, 25-14, 25-18 and 25-18 on Friday.
“We were happy with how we came in and played tonight,” Tech coach Matt Jennings said.
“Offensively, McKenna and Morgan each had great performances again and Lena did a great job finding her hitters. Now we get to Big Rapids to prepare for a good Ferris team.”
Tech improved to 10-5 overall and 4-4 in the GLIAC. Nine of the 10 wins were in straight sets.
The Huskies set one up on a 13-2 run. McKenna Wesol had four kills in the run and five kills in the set. Tech hit .242 and forced the home team into 11 offensive errors.
The second set featured four early matches before the Huskies used a 6-1 run to take a lead they would never look back. Kayce Meiner chipped in late with a pair of kills, and Wesol finished the set with a kill, putting up five for the second straight set.
Tech never trailed in the third and used an 8-3 run to take a 16-8 lead. Lindy Oujiri and Jillian Kuizenga each had three kills in the third, and the Mainers had a kill attempt. Carissa Beyer had eight digs in the final frame.
McKenna Wesol hit .370 and hit double figures for the second straight match with 12 kills. Lindy Oujiri had seven kills, while Morgan Radtke and Jillian Kuizenga each had six kills.
Lina Espejo-Ramirez had 33 assists. Carissa Beyer (12 digs), Meg Rabe (10 digs) and Grace Novotny (9 digs) led the defense.
Tech concludes a five-game road trip at Ferris State on Saturday. First serve is set for 3 p.m. The Bulldogs beat Northern Michigan 3-1 Friday.
