Syracuse didn’t overwhelm the Hokies with goals, but they finished clinically when opportunities arose. The Orange Browns scored a counterattack goal in the 28th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Goals in the 64th and 84th minutes of the second half forced Syracuse Tech into its biggest shutout of the season.
Virginia Tech struggled to create many scoring opportunities in both halves. In the 52nd minute, the Hokies had their best chance Danny Flores Put a ball in the middle Conor Pugh Alone in the box. Although he had space, Pugh struggled to get his feet on the water-filled pitch and the Orange keeper was able to make the stop.
