GEORGETOWN, SC (WC) – Georgetown is quickly getting back to normal after Hurricane Ian hit Friday afternoon.

East Bay Marina is open, as are most businesses on Front Street. People are already back to enjoying local food, markets and cool weather for walking on the water.

Georgetown Mayor Carol Jairo said crews had until Friday night to restore power and most businesses were open by Saturday afternoon.

Some ground-level homes on Prince Street and Greenwich Drive took on water, but city leaders are happy everyone is safe and back to normal quickly.

“I walked the streets on Saturday, most of the businesses, 98-99% of our businesses were open,” Jairo says.

The storm moved quickly during the day Friday. So quickly he was able to open SOCO Grille for dinner that night.

General manager Caroline Prince says it was a great way to rally townspeople once the rain subsided and people began assessing the damage.

“We were happy to be open in Georgetown and able to serve people and the customers who came here had a great time,” says Prince. “We want you to know that after a whirlwind party, it’s a good after party. We were so busy, so beat up.

A few businesses and homes near East Bay Park are experiencing water damage, but most of all, everyone is safe.

“Thank you to everyone who participated in this event and worked so hard, and to our residents who helped clean up and clean up their property,” Jairo said.

City crews worked from Saturday morning through Monday afternoon to remove the debris and restore all services on schedule.
