ST. george – Utah Tech University is inducting alumni Dr. Sidney Dixon and Steven E. Snow into the institution’s Hall of Fame in recognition of their contributions to the state of Utah.
Utah Tech’s 23rd annual Hall of Fame induction, Friday, will feature Greg Prince, former Hall of Fame announcer, as the keynote speaker. Prince has attended Dixie Junior College since 1965 and is currently CEO of the St. George-based SoftCell Biological Research Company.
In addition, Govt. Spencer Cox, a sixth-generation Utahn and the state’s 18th governor, offers remarks. As governor, Cox secured funds for affordable housing, introduced suicide prevention and mental health resources, and created water conservation and infrastructure plans. He also signed early education and workforce program funding, the new Utah Sustainable Health Partnership and expanded opportunities for women, diverse communities and rural parts of the state, according to the news release.
A hall of recognition for Dixon and Snow will be held Friday at 5:30 p.m. in the university’s Kenneth N. Gardner Student Center Auditorium. The community is invited to attend; Click here to purchase tickets, which are $35 each.
Dixon has been an educator for more than four decades, serving as the Utah State Superintendent of Public Instruction since 2016. She oversees a public education system with more than 670,000 students and has developed and implemented state initiatives such as dual language immersion and digital teaching and learning. .
In addition, she worked with legislators to secure increased education funding and reformed education policies. Her previous education experience includes teaching, school counseling, school and district administration, and state policy.
Dixon was a two-year Rebel and served on student activities and advisory committees. She holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, a master’s degree in school counseling and school administration, and a doctorate in educational leadership and policy from the University of Utah.
Honoree Snow attended Dixie College, earned a degree in accounting from Utah State University and a law degree from Brigham Young University. In the year In 1979, he formed the Snow Nuffer Law Firm in partnership with David Nuffer. Over the next two decades, the firm expanded to twenty-five attorneys with offices in St. George, Salt Lake City, and Mesquite, Nevada. Today, Snow serves on Utah Tech’s National Advisory Board.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Snow has served as president of the California San Fernando Mission, Area Authority Seventy, Full-Time General Authority Seventy, Africa Southeast Area President and member. The seventy president. Additionally, he served as church historian from 2012 until his release from church ministry in 2019. Born and raised in St. George, Snow is a descendant of Erastus Snow, who led the pioneers who settled southern Utah in 1861.
Prior to the Hall of Fame ceremony, Utah Tech will host a dedication ceremony for the newly renovated academic building at 2 p.m., also Friday. This fall, Utah Tech’s College of Education moved into the university’s former science building after being remodeled to provide the traditional classrooms and active learning spaces needed by the college’s expanding student body. Tours of the building honoring Washington County School District Superintendent Larry Bergeson, who has served in the role since 2013, will follow the ceremony. This free event is open to the community, and the public is encouraged to attend.
