Dirk’s Archives: Bikkembergs is celebrating its heritage by launching an online archive sale.
Starting Tuesday, fans of the brand and founder Dirk Bikkembergs’ contribution to fashion will be able to purchase pieces drawn from the archives and focused on 90s and early Aughts styles.
The sale includes original designs that were presented on the runway for the first time in that period, and was created for Italy’s World Cup-winning team in 2015. And a duffle coat.
“For me, the past always has an incredible value, because everything we learn is from there. To choose pieces for the archive project, I started looking back at all the fashion shows, choosing things that show the continuity of the brand through time, from the beginning to the present, to the future. The 53-piece sale is short-lived and organizes more than three drops, ranging from €350 for a T-shirt to €3,900 for an oversized trench coat.
It pays tribute to the brand’s founder and to his playfulness, often subsumed under the moniker “Sports Couture”, in football and sports illustration. The designer tapped football champions including Fabrizio Ravanelli and Paolo Cannavaro as models to team up with FC Fossombrone in 2005 to team up with the club’s frontline campaign images.
Wood described his items as timeless. “[They are] Ones that our customers love that they don’t need to update, but that they can easily find and wear again. They show that Dirk Bickenbergs was always ahead of his time if that mattered.
The company’s initiative is aimed at younger generations who haven’t seen the brand’s heydays and pays homage to the city of Antwerp.
Campaign images for the project were shot at Ismail Mumin’s docks and mills in the Belgian city.
