FRISCO – Training camp twists and turns The conclusion of his situation will come soonStars goalkeeper Anton Khudobin looks completely healthy.

Khdubin had hip surgery in the spring, and was treated differently when training camp began two weeks ago. The Stars didn’t want him going into the game cold, so they had him start their first game of the season and first preseason game of training camp. But that approach is different now.

Before Wednesday’s preseason game at Colorado, Stars coach Pete DeBoer said he plans to play both Khudobin and Scott Wedgewood against the Avalanche — with Wedgewood starting and Khudobin playing one or one half game. Even having Khudobin come mid-game instead of feeding the start is an improvement on his health.

“I think we passed [only starting Khudobin]” said Debor. “I think he got a clean bill of health. He says it’s fine, it’s not an issue, the staff says it’s not an issue.

Kudobin Health does two things for Stars.

One, it makes him play games, and he shows himself in the capital cleaning business. The most likely path for Kudobin is to leave in the next few days and be sent to AHL affiliate Texas, where $1.125 million of the $3.333 million cap hit could be buried.

With more playing time (and better results), the Stars might be able to land Kudobin instead of counting $2.208 million against their salary cap for a minor league goaltender.

Two, Kudobin’s apparent health means he won’t open the season on long-term injured reserve. Placing Kudobin’s $3.333 million cap hit at LTIR would have temporarily freed up cap space to sign Jason Robertson to a contract. (If Khudobin misses the entire season, the LTIR would only provide temporary cap relief.)

Meanwhile, Scott Wedgwood has assumed the role of backup goalkeeper following his successful cameo for the Stars after the end of last season. Entering Wednesday night, Wedgewood had played just twice in the preseason, both against Arizona in Tulsa more than a week ago.

“He’s at that age where he’s experienced enough that he’s comfortable with what he’s doing at this level, but he’s going to go in there and win games and expect to be a difference maker,” DeBoer said. “That’s hard to come by. I think we’re lucky to have him.”

Planned Activity: The Stars will not practice or handle the media on Thursday as they conduct team-building drills. DeBoer wouldn’t say what the group does.

“We’re going to keep that in-house until it’s over,” DeBoer said. I’ll fill you in after we get through.

Promotion schedule announced:- The Stars released their promotional schedule Wednesday morning, with Roppe Hintz (March 23 vs. Pittsburgh) and Miro Heskanen (April 8 and Vegas) bobblehead nights. A full list of gifts and theme nights can be found over here.
