Ivy Tech Community College’s Hamilton County campus in Noblesville will open its nursing school in January, officials announced.
The community college, which announced plans for a nursing school on Sept. 29, said it would become the college’s 19th nursing location after being approved by the Indiana State Board of Nursing earlier this month.
“We’ve heard from our community that credentialed nurses are very important in our community,” said Ivy Tech Hamilton County Chancellor Stacey Atkinson. We are very proud to help address this public health problem by adding more credentialed nurses to the pipeline.
Ivy Tech’s School of Nursing will admit 20 students for the upcoming spring semester and another 20 students for the upcoming fall semester, with additional seats to come. The college partnered with the Community Health Network to provide 15 Ivy Tech Hamilton County students with fully paid scholarships for tuition, course materials and clinical resources as part of the Scholars Program.
Other health care partners, including Indiana University Health, have supported the nursing school with grants to increase nursing enrollment, according to Ivy Tech.
“Thanks to Dr. Atkinson and her team’s leadership, we will be educating more highly skilled nurses to meet the workforce needs in the Hamilton County region and the state of Indiana,” said Sue Illspeman, president of Ivy Tech Community College.
In the year In late 2021, after approval by the Ivy Tech Hamilton County Campus Board and the Ivy Tech State Board of Trustees, the college has committed to begin construction of a $1.75 million state-of-the-art healthcare laboratory facility on the Hamilton County campus. It now maintains permanent CNA and medical assistant programs.
According to Ivy Tech It will increase the number of nursing students by 600 by 2025 and is the largest associate degree in nursing program in the country. More than 1,300 will graduate annually, officials said.
