Enjoy an afternoon of fashion and food while supporting a Joliet charity that provides critical illness care and hospice care, as well as grief support for children and adults.

The Lightways Hospice Guild will host its 33rd annual “Putin on the Glitz” Fashion Show and Luncheon on Nov. 6 at 11:30 a.m. at the Bolingbrook Golf Club, 2001 Rodeo Drive in Bolingbrook.

Local men’s and women’s fashions from Chico’s in Orland Park, Dean’s Clothing in Naperville and Joliet’s Surprise.

Event co-chairs are Shirley Mullen and Patty Zimmerman. Proceeds benefit Lightways Hospice and Critical Care in Joliet, formerly known as Joliet Area Community Hospice.

Now fashion shows are not as popular as the old days. But ad chairman Joan Ray feels they’re even more relevant today, as more people buy most of their clothes online.

“So if you want to see the latest fashions, this might be the only way to see what your favorite stores have to offer,” Ray said.

Fashion shows are also good for local business, she says. Ray said she has spoken with store owners and said they support “anything that brings more foot traffic into our stores.”

“People don’t come back to shop in person,” says Ray. “I’m guilty of it myself; I do my shopping online. But when you look online, you see one-dimensionality. It’s a whole new look at a style show.

Ray said the style show allows participants to dress in clothes they don’t consider themselves to wear, especially since the models are all ages and all shapes.

But when you see someone else wearing it – at my age, instead of seeing the ‘models of the branches’ – you at least see someone from the community you know, someone who looks like me, someone who belongs to me. age”

Although “Putin’ on the Glitz” will not feature children’s fashion this year, children are still welcome to attend, Ray said.

“It allows kids to come and see and dream a little bit about being a model on that runway,” Ray said.

According to Ray, attendees will be introduced to the wonderful Joliet.

“It’s an independent boutique, so you’re not just walking down the street like everyone else,” says Ray.

Ray, her father, Al Ray She was one of the seven founders of Joliet Area Hospice in 1982, and her mother, Kay Ray, said, “There are only two or three survivors of the organization.”

Two of the hospice’s original founding members — Dr. Clarice Boswell and the Rev. Jim Wilson — plan to attend the fashion show and luncheon, Joanne said.

Joanne said she experienced firsthand the good that Lightways was doing in 2002 when her good friend, Rev. Barb Donica, died.

And finally, this is why the community should support this year’s fashion show and luncheon.

“You can’t find a person around who hasn’t been affected by a serious illness in any shape or form,” Joanne said.

Tickets for the 33rd annual “Putin’ on the Glitz” fashion show and luncheon cost $65 each. Deadline for bookings is October 18th.

Those unable to attend can donate, sponsor or purchase 50/50 raffle tickets at the website below.
