Since the outbreak of war in Ukraine, more than 7.5 million people have fled their homes in search of safety and stability in neighboring countries. Ukrainians seeking asylum in other countries face challenges most people can’t imagine—separation from family, abandoned jobs, language barriers, and legal hurdles. From entrepreneurs to tech startups, many Ukrainians are looking for training programs to help them get started in new countries. Cloud computing is a rapidly growing industry and many companies and organizations migrating to the cloud need a cloud-skilled workforce.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) was launched to help Ukrainians start or grow a career in technology IT Skills 4U, a free comprehensive workforce-development initiative to provide AWS Cloud skills training and career support services to Ukrainians worldwide. IT Skills 4U is accessible through a website in Ukrainian, Polish and English where students can find training courses, AWS certification opportunities and career support services. The courses and resources are designed for individuals of any experience level – from those with no technology background or experienced information technology (IT) professionals seeking additional certifications, advanced courses, or job placement support. After a brief self-assessment of their skills, students receive personalized learning plans with recommended training courses.
Ukrainians around the world can choose from a variety of AWS-designed courses based on their IT expertise and learning goals. Course offerings include digital on-demand training that students take at their own pace and in instructor-led sessions. We offer free AWS certification exam vouchers, so students can put industry-certified credentials on their resume. AWS certification helps students build credibility and confidence, and helps employers identify skilled professionals.
The following AWS training and certification programs are available through the IT Skills 4U portal:
AWS Academy
- AWS Academy It empowers higher education institutions to prepare students for careers in the cloud and develop industry-recognized certifications.
- We work with two Polish universities – Warsaw School of Computer Science and WSB University in Dabrów Górnyczyza – to offer the AWS Academy Cloud Foundation course to Ukrainians for free without registering at either university. The course provides a detailed overview of cloud concepts, AWS core services, security, architecture, pricing, and support.
AWS education
- AWS education It is a free online, self-paced learning program. New-to-the-cloud learners can access a large library of self-paced training and resources in Ukrainian and 11 other languages.
- Students can access the AWS Education job board to search and apply to thousands of in-demand jobs and organizations worldwide.
AWS GetIT
- AWS GetIT It encourages 12-14 year old students, especially girls, to find career opportunities in technology.
- Program participants will engage in a variety of co-curricular activities leading up to the AWS GetIT competition. During the competition, students use their newly learned skills to design an app idea that aims to solve a social and environmental issue of their choice.
- This year we launched GateIT pilots in Poland and Ukraine. AWS GetIT is offered through a school in Wroclaw, Poland, and the Optima Distance Learning School, a free online educational platform for Ukrainian students.
AWS instructor-led training
- We provide. Instructor-led training Physically and remotely in other locations in Poland. These courses are offered by AWS Training Partners (ATP) and AWS-authorized instructors, adapting the coursework to the student’s pace, incorporating a variety of learning methods, and providing additional support from instructors (eg, office hours).
Restart AWS
- Restart AWS A full-time, classroom-based workforce development training program that prepares individuals for careers in the cloud and connects them with potential employers. The program connects over 98% of graduates with job interview opportunities.
- We have started groups for Ukrainians in Germany and Poland, and we will continue to add more groups in different countries. No technical background is required to apply.
AWS Skill Builder
- AWS Skill Developer The Digital Learning Hub is available in over 200 countries and territories, allowing students to quickly and easily access more than 500 in-demand courses, from basic to advanced.
- AWS Skill Builder provides engaging content to meet a variety of learning goals and styles in over 15 languages. Individuals can also find course recommendations tailored to job roles and technology areas, helping people find the content most relevant to their skill level.
IT Skills 4U is helping connect individuals with cloud jobs through personalized support, job fairs, resources and relevant job alerts. The program offers resume writing courses, interview preparation sessions, and English and Polish language learning classes. As a complement to technical training, we invest in helping students develop the soft skills needed for recruitment meetings and interviews.
We are offering this program to a non-profit organization based in Poland. ZPPIt is focused on helping Central European businesses thrive and helping Ukrainian businesses and Ukrainian citizens continue their economic activities during the war.
I liked the organization of the courses and it was possible to cover such broad and basic topics in detail in a short amount of time. The course inspired me to complete the certification and master other technical aspects on AWS, such as DevOps.

More than 30 AWS customers and partners, including companies such as ABN AMRO Clearing Bank NV, Altkom Software & Consulting, Digital Virgo, DXC Technology, EPAM Systems, are committed to providing Ukrainian students with permanent jobs, internships, internships and training in cloud computing roles. , Hapag-Lloyd AG, Ibexlabs, iTechArt Group, Kyndryl, Labra, OpsWorks Co., Profisea, SoftwareONE Academy, Software Development Association Poland, Spyrosoft and Storm Response UKI. AWS plans to hire students from the program, into the AWS Tech U program and into roles within AWS Professional Services and other teams. Additionally, Amazon recently made a promise. Employ at least 5,000 immigrants in the US by the end of 2024 as part of our ongoing efforts to support people displaced by conflict. These employees receive customized support and resources through our Amazon Welcome Door program.
Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov, said: “Around the world, Ukrainians are considered a society rich in high-level specialists, unicorn startups and amazing technological ideas. “We see a strong potential in the development of the IT sphere of Ukraine and are doing everything to increase the number of IT specialists. The IT Skills 4U project at AWS will help engage more newcomers to IT and develop careers for experienced professionals.
