By day, Doug Wiggins shows off his creative flair for fashion.

It is a profession that belongs to a company.

Growing up in New Mexico, Wiggin experienced his share of hardships.

That’s why his design company, Done By Doug, often deals with canned food.

“This is the second one this year and it’s an easy way to give back to the community that helped me,” Wiggins says. I have a platform to make a difference with my fashion design label.

Wiggins 8:00 – 4:00 Friday, October 14, at Power Plant, 3719 Fourth Ave.

All donations go to Storehouse New Mexico.

Wiggins is also hosting a raffle for the event. The prize for the five items donated will be a custom made by Wiggins entered into the raffle.

“This is my way of thanking those who donated,” he said.

Fashion is being created every day. Recently, he started posting videos on Instagram showing his creative process.

“I had a friend who told me I should do this,” he says of the videos. “It really broadened the reach of what I do. Expressing yourself through fashion is one of the most powerful things.

Wiggins can also create conversations with his fashion.

“My work often revolves around protesting acts of violence or social injustice in our society,” he said. “Whether you like my work or not, it’s important to make a social commentary on it and get people talking. It’s meant to be a conduit.”

By wearing canned food, Wiggins wants to inspire others to do something for the community.

“This is the path I chose,” he said. “It takes time to make change. Make every step count.”
