Alpena students will have better access to health care with the opening of a school-based health care center on the Alpena High School campus this school year, the Alcona Health Center announced on Friday.
The Alpena High Health Center will provide care for children and adolescents aged 5 through 21.
Alcona Health Center is currently recruiting a health care provider and support team for the center, which will offer sports physicals, well-child exams, vaccinations, illness and injury care, and other routine care.
The in-school center will let young people access health care easily and in a familiar environment, said Malinda Amlotte, community outreach manager for Alcona Health Center.
The center will be temporarily located in D House, where existing behavioral health services are now offered, and moved to G House after renovations of that area are complete, Amlotte said.
