In the year The team has already made headlines before the 2022 toe skin for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
First, on July 18, Georgia Tech’s new jersey was revealed. Then, three days later, it was announced that Georgia Tech’s Labor Day season opener against Clemson had been sold.
The Yellow Jackets are all hoping that the recent buzz will help the program regain more success than it has experienced in the past few years. Overall, head coach Geoff Collins has accumulated 9 wins in his three years at the helm, including a 3-9, 2-6 finish in 2021.
Georgia Tech The 2022 schedule is booked with two top-15 matchups against recent national champions.
Tech’s season opener – the aforementioned opener against No. 14 Clemson – will be part of the Chick-fil-A Kickoff at Mercedes-Benz Stadium for the second straight year. Closing out the schedule will be a Nov. 26 showdown against the defending national champion Georgia Bulldogs.
It was last year’s battle in Death Valley that got Georgia Tech over the Tigers after the Yellow Jackets beat Clemson in 2014. But the Bulldogs are riding a four-game winning streak in pure old-fashioned rivalry. Georgia has been outscored the last two games 97-7 and has not come close.
Georgia won’t be the only SEC opponent the Yellow Jackets will face this season.
Ole Miss comes to town in week three. These two teams have only met four times on the gridiron. The last was in 2013 when Ole Miss beat Georgia Tech 25-17 in the Music City Bowl.
Central Florida (UCF) finds itself on the Yellow Jackets’ schedule for the second time in three years. Georgia Tech’s only remaining conference opponent will be Western Carolina in week two.
In week six of 2022, Georgia Tech will feature one of the teams the Yellow Jackets have beaten under Collins. In fact, Georgia Tech has back-to-back wins in 2020 and 2021 and looks to make it three in a row against the Blue Devils.
Coming off a bye week, Georgia Tech will be back in action Thursday night when Virginia comes to town for its final home game on Nov. 12 against Miami — another team Georgia Tech beat on Collins’ watch in 2019.
Four of the Yellow Jackets’ games in 2022 will be on the road at Florida State (Oct. 29), Virginia Tech (Nov. 5), North Carolina (Nov. 19) and the Bulldogs on Nov. 26.
So, for a team looking to right the ship, it’s going to be hard work week in and week out to do so.
