Why did I become a journalist?
I enjoy meeting people, seeing the world through their eyes and finding out who they are and why they do what they do. I consider it a privilege to be able to help people tell their stories and share their perspectives.
What do I like most about my job?
I love covering restaurants and retail. Columbus has a growing restaurant industry and we continue to see more cuisines from international cultures, which is exciting. I also love to shop (to my detriment), so retail is a fun shot for me too.
The story I made had a lasting impact on me.
I covered citizenship issues for a few years at another local publication, and in 2020 I covered the George Floyd protests, even taking an angle on the art coming out of the protests. For the Dispatch, I recently discovered a story that has had a lasting impact on me about two restaurant owners and their incredible journey to open their first brick and mortar business.

What is your biggest challenge?
Honestly, there’s always so much going on, especially on this beat, that it can be hard to keep up. Thankfully, the local restaurant scene is well covered in our newsroom, which helps.
What I like to do when I’m not working
I enjoy traveling, cooking/baking, watching true crime documentaries, shopping, trying new restaurants and spending time with friends and family.

Why journalism is important.
Good journalism brings communities together. I love it when people say “I never thought about that before” or “I didn’t know this was happening”! After reading one of my articles. Journalism inspires change, and can expose people to perspectives they might not have considered before or people they might not have met otherwise.
