Kansas City, Mo. (KCTV) – The Kansas City Health Department’s back-to-school immunization clinic was so big Saturday that the department had to turn some people away.
The long line snaked into the parking lot, prompting the health department to set up tent covers for the people in line.
The Health Department held the event at the Trost Avenue location, which included the various immunizations that students are required to receive in public schools.
New Kindergarteners need five immunizations before entering school:
- Measles, Measles and Measles (MMR)
- Varicella (chicken pox)
- Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis (DTap)
- Polio
- Hepatitis B
11- to 12-year-old students need three booster shots:
- Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Whooping Cough) Booster (DTap)
- Prevention of meningococcal meningitis (MCV)
- HPV (recommended)
High school seniors 16 and older need:
- Meningococcal virus (MCV4)
- Meningococcal B (recommended)
The Department of Health also offers free lead testing for children.
Games and family fun events at the clinic included face painting, a school supply distribution, a mascot, an ice cream truck, treats and stickers.
