The Greater Simokis Health Foundation received 42 applications in the 2022 Community Grant cycle, totaling nearly $205,000 in funding requests — more than the foundation received in any previous year.
The Board of Directors met last Friday, August 12, 2009 to conduct a final review and vote on this year’s grantees. The 30 approved community grants represent a variety of activities and services focused on health, wellness and prevention in Graham, Jackson, Macon and Swain counties.
The Great Smokies Health Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, was created in August 2014 with the proceeds from the sale of West Care Health System (Harris Regional Hospital and Swain County Hospital) to Duke. LifePoint, a for-profit entity.
The mission of the Great Smoke Health Foundation is to improve the health of the residents of Jackson, Swain, Macon and Graham counties through investment and collaboration focused on health, wellness and prevention. The Foundation is governed by a local board with representatives from the communities served.
Organizations seeking funding from the Greater Smokies Health Foundation must be a nonprofit 501(c)(3) agency with a current charitable solicitation license issued by the North Carolina Department of State or a city, county or other state agency.
