MVP Health Care and Legal Project to provide free legal aid to the elderly – troyrecord

ALBANY, NY – MVP Health Care and the Legal Project recently announced a partnership to provide free legal assistance to seniors on a variety of issues. Supported by a $260,000 grant from MVP, the Elder Legal Assistance Program helps people over 55 navigate complex legal questions, prepare living wills, assist with custody decisions, support estate planning, assist with end-of-life document preparation, help with Medicaid and Medicare eligibility and many other legal issues.

Free legal aid is available to those who meet age and income eligibility in Albany, Schenectady, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Columbia and Greene counties.

“MVP Health Care and Legal Project share a commitment to making a difference for our clients and the communities we serve. Low-income seniors and their caregivers, often at risk of mental and physical health deterioration due to the unnecessary stress and anxiety of navigating the legal system, said MVP Health Care President and CEO “Our partnership with Legit Project works to close a critical gap in services for seniors by providing peace of mind and supporting their overall well-being,” Executive Director Chris Del Vecchio said in a recent news release.

Through the Elder Legal Assistance Program, an attorney provided by The Legal Project helps low-income seniors and their caregivers access cost-effective legal services. Without the help of an attorney to understand and protect their rights, it is common for seniors to be unable to access services or lose assets that were protected.

“The legal system can often be a confusing process for seniors and their families,” Michelle Pollock Rich, executive director of the Law Project, said in a news release. “The Elder Legal Assistance Program provides compassionate, professional legal assistance to seniors who may not otherwise have access to these services. MVP’s support of this project will benefit many seniors in the Capital Region and I commend them for their commitment to those in need.
