WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center officials shared a document with WECT that shows the state is recommending that the hospital return to good standing with Medicare and Medicaid services. An earlier survey on June 29 put the hospital’s status in “immediate danger” due to patient safety concerns.
The hospital was placed in Immediate Jeopardy for failing to meet standards for patient rights, nursing services, emergency services, quality assessment and performance improvement, and partnership with the governing body. Both surveys were conducted by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. State Medicare regulators have now recommended that Jeopardy status be removed immediately after conducting a series of studies from August 8 to 11.
If the partnership passes, Medicare will not pay for any hospitalized patients after Aug. 12 and will not pay for any hospitalized patients before the deadline.
