Between July 12 and August 24, 17 restaurants in the San Fernando Valley area were closed due to health concerns.
According to a report from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, the food establishments had their health permits suspended for pesticides, improper food temperatures or sewage disposal.
Food establishments whose licenses have been suspended should be closed until further inspection and the problems are fixed. Closures can occur during routine and owner-initiated inspections, complaint investigations and re-inspections.
The department did not provide details about the nature of the bacteria – such as type, number and where they were found in the facility.
If a food facility is closed for plant contamination, drainage problems or no water in the facility, it loses an additional seven points from the four points deducted for major health violations. Anytime there are two major health hazards, such as unexpected food temperatures, the facility loses an additional three points.
