It’s been seven months since Jim Harbaugh did the interview Minnesota VikingsAnd the star football coach has no regrets about exploring a return NFL After spending his best season on Michigan.

“I’m not going to apologize for what I saw,” Harbaugh told ESPN’s Gene Wojciechowski in an interview that aired Saturday. “And I don’t apologize for wanting to be an unpublished Michigan. It seems to cut the last part. And here it is. [I’m] I’m as happy as can be.”

The Vikings interviewed Harbaugh for their open job, but did not offer him the job. Instead, Minnesota hired Rams offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell after LA’s Super Bowl run.

Harbaugh, who coached the San Francisco 49ers from 2011-14, told Michigan administrators in February that his interview with the Vikings was a “one-time thing” and that interviewing with NFL teams would not be “a recurring theme.”

The Michigan coach (and alum) won’t deny, though, that he still has the NFL itch.

“One of the things that really drives me is, you know, we were in San Francisco, we were that close to winning the Super Bowl,” he said. “It’s always something. There’s unfinished business. But, hey, winning a national championship, [I] You can be very happy with this. So that’s the goal. He is what we are after.

Harbaugh saw great success in his four-year pro tenure, going 44-19 and leading the 49ers to three Super Bowl appearances.

He also saw great success coaching Michigan. Now in his eighth season in Ann Arbor, Harbaugh is 62-24. The Colts went 11-2, earning their first win over rival Ohio State in 10 years, and it was their best 2021 campaign. Michigan fell to eventual national champion Georgia 34-11 in the Orange Bowl.

Harbaugh’s Wolverines are expected to be one of the top teams again in 2022. They opened the season ranked No. 8 overall and beat Colorado State 51-7 in the season opener on Saturday.
