Pokemon entered the world of luxury fashion when it announced a collaboration with Olivier Rousteing Balmain.
The “Pokemon x Balmain Trainer Fashion Set” takes inspiration from the fashion house’s energetic appeal and bold aesthetic, aligning with the Japanese franchise’s passion for imagination and playfulness. “Pokémon’s bright pop aesthetic and charming creatures have always fascinated me,” Rustetting explains. “Today, we are confident that digital innovations can be achieved, and all the positive changes make me think of a simpler time when we all shared a bright vision. And that’s the key reason I’m excited to be collaborating with Pokémon on this collection – because now we can all use a reminder of those past times of hope and optimism.
Showcasing a variety of pieces for the Pokemon community, the collaborative collection marries the franchise icon with signature Balmain clothing, accessories and footwear. The archival Maze-inspired “Labyrinth” motif is frequently seen throughout the line on sweaters, tanks and graphic shirts. Pikachu print can also be seen among staple pieces such as outerwear, short-sleeved shirts and leather bags.
One design that stood out in the capsule was Balmain’s B-bold sneakers, dressed in a palette of yellow, red, black and cream, interpreted as a play on pokeball. Elsewhere, a series of slouchy track pants complete the collection.
In partnership with SharpEnd, 15 NFC-enabled badges will be offered at selected Balmain stores, allowing customers to experience a unique dual partnership. It includes the chance to win VIP tickets to the upcoming Balmain Festival at Paris Fashion Week and instant access to Balmain Fashion in Pokemon UNITE.
