MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) – Starting this week, the Washington County Health Department is offering a new two-pronged Covid incentive.
This booster is specifically designed to fight not only the original virus, but also some new variants.
Administrator John Jackson said he expects the BA.4 and BA.5 variants to expand this fall and winter.
The Department of Health is strongly encouraging local seniors to get the shot.
“This is an opportunity for us to provide our community with something that will protect them and that was our goal all along. And to protect them not only from the original Covid virus, but now to be able to add that extra level of protection because everything we’re seeing now is moving away from the original — now it’s focused on these new variants. Jackson said.
Call the Washington County Health Department at 740-374-2782 to schedule an appointment.
The Department of Health is currently offering the vaccine to anyone over the age of 18.
Clinics are open Wednesday through Friday. Walk-ins are welcome, but Jackson encourages people to schedule their appointments.
Even if you don’t have insurance, the incentive is free.
Jackson said the department has already scheduled dozens of appointments.
Jackson said the Washington County Health Department may offer the bivalent covid vaccine and flu shot at the same clinics in October.
