The No. 25 Houston Cougars (1-0) survived a triple-overtime thriller on the road at UTSA last week, but there won’t be an easy task for them this week. The Cougs will stay in Texas and head to Lubbock to play the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Saturday at 4 pm EST. The Red Raider offense looked good in last week’s 63-10 victory over FCS Murray State, so Houston’s defense could give it some issues.

You might think we’re shaking with the Red Raiders after hearing their starting quarterback is out for this one. But Donovan Smith stepped in after Shaw’s injury and looked good, throwing for 221 yards and four touchdowns without a pick. Granted, that’s against an FCS team, but still, it was surprisingly effective. Houston did nothing to impress a week ago. The Cougs had a 12-0 record and a No. 6 ranking in their regular season schedule, but they looked like a worse team before heating up in the second week of last week’s contest against UTSA.
