CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) – On Saturday at the Cape Riverfront Market in Cape Girardeau, three lucky people grew up with a unique business.
These three individuals were given a booth at a riverside market event where they could sell their own products and interact with their customers.
This was made possible by a grant from Youth Entrepreneurship through Old Town Cape. The winning teenagers were awarded $250 each to set up their businesses in the market.
The winning individuals are Caitlin Ernst with Fragrance Solutions, Vita Galati of Gudius by Galati, and Marcellis Taylor with Tofu Da Customization.
We talked to the winners in the market. They say this is a great opportunity to help their business grow.
“It’s a great opportunity,” Galati said. “I’m so glad to have this outlet out of all these people and now they can come and see what I’m doing just for future reference. It’s great,” he said.
“It’s a big thing because the opportunities for us are so often we come back because we’re too young, we don’t understand it, we don’t take it seriously,” Ernst said. “It’s great that the small town, the community that comes with it and how it works and gives us so many opportunities to do what we want to do and build our businesses.”
They also said that many customers came and bought their products.
“It’s good,” Taylor said. “The people are friendly and nice, the business is great, and it sells a lot.”
“When someone twists the lid of the candle and is like, ‘Oh my goodness. This smells amazing.” Ernest said. “I’ve worked very hard for that and it’s only because of the value of the product I’ve created.”
This is the work they have prepared even in their younger years.
“I’ve always been drawn to the kitchen since I was a kid,” says Galati. “I grew up always being in the kitchen and being around food in general.”
Interacting with hundreds of people a day is a great way to get your name out there for future business opportunities.
“People take my business cards, go on my social media, tell people and know you’re selling stuff and it’s a great feeling to get your name out there,” Taylor said.
