WOONSOCKET, RI, September 13, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — CVS Health® ( NYSE: CVS) appointed Jeffrey R. Balser, MD, PhD, to serve on the CVS Health Board of Directors (the “Board”), effective immediately. He was also named in the board’s medical affairs committee.
“Dr. Belser’s extensive experience in a variety of roles in healthcare organizations will be a valuable asset to the Board,” said CVS Health President and CEO. Karen S. Lynch. “His deep clinical knowledge and leading health system leadership will give him insight to support our strategy to serve consumers and meet their health needs differently.
Dr. Baler serves as President and CEO Vanderbilt University Medical Center (“VUMC”) and has served as CEO since 2009 and as Dean of the D.N. Vanderbilt University Medical school since 2008. VUMC is one of the largest and most prestigious academic medical centers in the Southeast, with seven hospitals and 170 outpatient facilities. Tennessee and in neighboring regions.

Dr. Baler completed his fellowship training in both cardiac anesthesia and critical care medicine from Osler Medical Services, residency training in anesthesiology. Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, MD. He joined the Hopkins faculty in 1995, practicing cardiac anesthesia and ICU medicine, leading an NIH-funded research program supporting the genomics of heart rhythm disorders.
