The 2022 Africa Fashion and Design Week (AFDW) kicked off yesterday at Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos and concludes today with the theme “Emerge, Inspire, Ignite”.
According to the founder of the event, Queengold Daniela Sekibo, AFDW was born out of a desire to portray Africa in a positive light.
“The idea is to showcase the talent of new designers and promote them to stability. To tell our story through the creativity of African designers around the world.”
According to Sekibo, this year’s AFDW is featuring designers from Africa and other parts of the world.
“We have supermodels from Africa and the UK and of course Nigerian designers. We are showcasing designers in 11 African countries.
“This year makes AFDW 10 years old and we are celebrating our partners who have stood by us for 10 years. Our first runway show was in Port Harcourt, Rivers State and we have evolved over the years. We have gone from Lagos to Los Angeles, New York, Nairobi and Accra. We’ve got the best names of designers here,” she says.
