AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – For two years, businesses in our area have had to deal with the pandemic, which means fewer customers and fewer restrictions.
Now that the doors are starting to open again, community leaders realize that owners and city officials can work together to keep people coming.
Here’s how the city is working with small businesses.
“Well, I’ve been cooking my whole life,” says Gerard Bryant, owner of Flavors2010 Catering.
Bryant started his food business in 2010. In 2014, they partnered with the city of Augusta to become one of its largest clients.
“He’s going to keep me going so far, and then he’s going to talk about what kind of food he’s going to serve, but you won’t know until you taste it,” says Bryant.
The city of Augusta wants to build more relationships with entrepreneurs like Bryant to grow their businesses.
Interim Administrator Takiah Dawes said, “Small businesses run America, and it’s important to do everything we can to support our local small businesses and help our local small businesses have resources and tools and opportunities. successful”
More than 60 small businesses registered for the symposium, looking for innovative ways to partner with the City of Augusta.
“Many will want to know how to qualify to do business with Augusta, and the compliance department can walk them through that process. Other businesses may want to know what opportunities are available in the near future and may take advantage of them and apply,” Dawes said.
The city partnered with Augusta University’s business school because knowledge is power.
Dr. Rick Franza, dean of the School of Business, said: “You can learn about programs like our bachelor’s degree and our MBA program. We also provide executive education and project management, which are becoming increasingly popular, and then provide liaison and other services.
City leaders hope the small businesses that stopped Thursday will find new opportunities and that the program’s roster will grow in the future.
