Party Center: The beauty industry is putting on its party shoes this Paris Fashion Week, with the number of celebrations approaching pre-coronavirus levels.
On Friday night, Caritas Maison de Beauté held a fete at the now-renovated Rue Saint-Honoré flagship, where Crazy Horse dancers performed on the arching staircase. Among the cocktail attendees were actress Monica Bellucci and Jean-Paul Agon, chairman of L’Oréal, owner of Carita.
Model and dancer herself, Coco Rocha, was among the guests at the five-story beauty mecca. Rocha has just completed her 101st Modeling Camp, which she teaches to models around the world. About 3,500 men and women participated in the program.
“It’s for every model that I think should be represented,” she said. “I had the youngest maybe 14 and the oldest 75 women and men on the bench.”
Rocha helps guide models in the right direction, for example, to know what contracts to sign.
“It’s also the poses, the runways and all the fun stuff,” she said. But the business side is really and truly what he’s focused on.
Rocha teaches models to know their rights and improve their skills.
“I think we need more women helping women, but only models helping models,” she said.
L’Oreal executive Elisabeth Sandager, who was charged with turning around the Carita brand, was also there.
“We’re taking over Maison de Beauté,” she underlined. This is how I rebuild the brand. I want the temple of beauty where it all began. I wanted to make it a luxury home, as well as a restaurant and apartments. I was inspired by artifacts. It is our first step into luxury.”
John Nolet is the artistic director of Maison de Beauté. The famous hairstylist said that he dreamed about the product since he was eight years old.
“This brand is fantastic and unique,” he said.
The night before, on September 29, at least four beauty parties were held simultaneously.
Malle hosted an intimate sit-down dinner at Le Voltaire to celebrate his collaboration with designer Pierre Hardy. The two teamed up years ago on a backpack and have kept in touch ever since.
“There’s a terrible time when I do things for Christmas, which are very commercial and not close to my brand. This time I thought I could ask Pierre to be Santa Claus and invite him as a special guest,” Male said. “It’s a way to celebrate our friendship, but it’s also a way to celebrate the fact that we’ve had a very similar approach to things over the years. We are both completely modern, but inspired by a love of culture and design from a bygone era.
Male describes Hardy’s signature cube motif as “modern”. “It may be a sol Levite, but it’s somehow a very ancient Roman design,” Male said. “So what I really like is the symbolism.”
Just in time for the holidays, starting in early November, each of the brand’s red perfume sleeves will be replaced with a red, black and gray sleeve, a Hardy design. The house’s fragrances turn up their sleeves, and the designer created some essentials with the oilcloth fabric.
“He did some unique designs for us that I love,” Male continued. “I want one. I don’t have one yet—yes, the secret motive behind this is that I want one of these for myself, and I hate begging.”
A few blocks away, Interparfums SA was hosting a cocktail party to officially inaugurate its new headquarters at 10 Rue de Solferino, the former seat of the French Socialist Party. Hundreds of beauty executives poured into the buildings and grounds.
Philippe Benasin, chairman and CEO of Interparfums SA, loves the view from the balcony overlooking the three separate buildings that make up the new headquarters.
Across the Seine, Byredo’s rue Saint Honore shop was rocking with music and people gathered to celebrate with brand founder Ben Gorham and newly minted image and makeup partner Lucia Pica.
Up north, Jean-Paul Gaultier hosted a raucous party for Scandal, the perfume masterbrand, at a mansion in tony Place St. George. Tumbling over the boxing theme, scantily clad people wandered the rooms, and there were loads of lockers.
