BIRCWH program accepting applications for women’s health research

Lexington, Ky. (September 7, 2022) — University of Kentucky Building comprehensive research activities in women’s health (BIRCWH) program It is now accepting applications for scholars and collaborators interested in research to advance women’s health.

Applications are being accepted until October 14, 2022 for one scholar position and two associate positions starting in January 2023. BIRCWH Scholars and Associates are selected by Competitive application process Tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty from across the UK with the interest and potential to establish self-funded research programs in women’s health.

This call for applications is a 12-month appointment, and selected teachers are expected to complete training on research ethics and participate in seminars to lay the foundation to become independent researchers based on women’s health. This National Institutes of Health training grant covers 75% of a scholar’s tenure to focus on research to achieve these goals. Fellowship tenure for research (30-50%) is negotiated with UK colleges. The fellowship program is suitable for non-educated teachers starting their careers in the UK with start-up funding or for non-US citizens/permanent residents.

The UK BIRCWH program offers many resources, including mentorship, networking, professional and career development, and manuscript and grant writing assistance. The goal is to support the journey of BIRCWH members to become independent and funded women’s health researchers.

BIRCWH Scholars benefit not only from the expertise and guidance of Thomas Currie, PhD, Anne Coker, PhD, and Phil Kern, MD, but also from a cadre of faculty who lead BIRCWH Scholars and Fellows in five Focuses and Fellows. Interaction areas:

• Drug abuse and its relationship to sex and gender differences
• Cancer in relation to sex and gender differences
• Hormonal imbalance in women’s life
• Women’s cardiovascular and endocrine health and pregnancy outcomes
• Prevention of gender-based violence

At the University of Kentucky, the BIRCWH program is entering 22^Th year and has recently been reviewed for an additional five years. The BIRCWH Research Community comprises UK faculty with interrelated research interests and common points in their careers. The program actively addresses the challenges of preserving life by advancing research and aligning academic and/or clinical needs.
