“We love this game. We play this game. This game was good for all of us,” DeRozan said. “But at the end of the day, you have to take care of yourself first and foremost.”
DeRozan’s honesty about his issues with his mental health has led him to repeatedly interact with people who express gratitude for his openness. Donovan said someone in Toronto wanted to thank DeRozan this season, and the player spent some time with that person.
“To me, moments like this are bigger than playing a basketball game, bigger than a paycheck, I mean, man,” DeRozan said. “It says a lot about someone’s story helping someone else and seeing it touch me in a different light.
