TARRANT, Ala. (WBRC) – Frustrated business owners in Tarrant want the city to do something about the constant flooding on Highway 79.

Lash Shelton, owner of Steel Stand’n Barber Shop, said this happens all the time and Sept. 4 was a prime example. This was because the road was impassable.

You can see drivers trying to avoid what looks like a puddle on the side of the road.

A Taco Bell manager parked a customer’s car and it has been sitting in their parking lot ever since.

Shelton said just a little rain would flood the area.

He said he has been in this location for about seven months and the water has seeped into his shop at least twice, sometimes preventing customers from entering.

He said he thinks the drainage system is a problem and wants the city to do something about it now.

“Make it disappear. (laughter) Make it disappear. People try to get in, sometimes their cars stop because the water is so deep, you know, right out front. This whole parking lot is full. I shouldn’t be affected by every rain. Like every rain? Maybe, you know.” , when it rains a lot. Maybe I can understand that, but the smallest amount of rain will flood,” Shelton said.

We reached out to Mayor Wayman Newton on September 6th to see if there is a plan to fix this problem.

We set up a time to talk, but he canceled.

We contacted the city police chief but he was told not to talk about it.

We reached out to the mayor again on September 8, but our calls, messages and texts were not returned.
