Thirty-seven-year nursing veteran Victoria Gatt of Carson Valley Health is the June 2023 DAISY Nursing Award winner.
GAT is selected by patients with diseases that attack the immune system.
“The reason why Victoria is special is that everything, and I mean everything, she says she will do or will do, she keeps her word,” the candidate explained. “That means everything to a patient.”
The award is given to selected nurses who go above and beyond for patients and their families in hospitals. The prize cave will be kept secret until the winner’s prize recognition is over, so everyone knows about their prize face-to-face and at the same time.
One June 12, Gat was one of many nurses who gathered to hear the DAISY award announcement. It wasn’t until her manager led her to the front that Gat realized she had been chosen as the winner.
“I didn’t expect that,” said Gatt. “I do the best I can for each of my patients. It’s great to receive this award and recognition for my work as a nurse. Thank you to the patient who took the time to see that and nominate me. They see the compassion I have for them.”
Nominations for the DAISY Awards are encouraged throughout the year, and winners are selected by a committee in the fall and spring.
