ROANOKE, Va. (WDJ) – A health care system in our hometown is planning major renovations that will be completed within three years.

Centra Health announced A multi-year $500 million plan to meet community needs.

The changes are based on the 2021 Community Health Needs Assessment. The four issues identified in the review are caregiving, access to behavioral health services, access to child care, and addressing chronic disease.

The first phase of the project will update and expand the Lynchburg area campus.

“These are not isolated projects that address individual needs. “It’s really a holistic view of what’s going to be most effective, looking at the needs of our community and making their voices heard through the Community Health Assessment,” said Amy Carrier, president and CEO of CentraHealth.

Centra Health is also working to expand home-based services, address behavioral health, add parking and replace the emergency room.

All projects are expected to be completed by Fall 2027.
