Christ Hospital Health Network is expanding its capacity to care for heart failure patients.
Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States. An estimated 6.5 million Americans live with heart failure, and an additional 1 million are diagnosed with heart failure each year.
About 8,000 Americans need a new heart to survive, but with a limited supply of donor hearts, only approximately 3,500 transplants are performed.
Christ Hospital’s Heart and Vascular Institute’s latest program expansion comes after the successful hiring of two renowned heart transplant specialists with more than 50 years of experience.
“The Christ Hospital Heart Transplant Program provides additional opportunities for local and regional heart patients in need of this life-saving procedure,” said Debbie Hayes, president and CEO of Christ Hospital Health Network. “This expansion of our nationally recognized heart failure services is a key part of our strategy to improve the health of our community by providing patients and their families with everything they need to receive exceptional care here in Cincinnati.”
Christ Hospital Health Network welcomed nationally recognized heart transplant specialists Geeta Bhatt, MD, Medical Director of Christ Hospital’s Heart Transplant Program, and Robert Dowling, MD, Christ Hospital’s Director of Cardiac Surgery, to mark the program’s launch.
