CORBETT, Ore. (KPTV) – Public safety power is down in communities in the Columbia River Gorge and some areas are already without power. Others are still trying to shut it down.
Portland General Electric customers in Corbett are currently without power. The Corbett Fire Station, located at 36930 East Historic Columbia River Highway, is offering ice, water and a place to refill batteries and medical equipment.
Down the road, Multnomah Lodge and Cascade Locks have power, but customers have been warned they may not be able to stay on.
Michelle Sobasky, owner of Thirsty Coffee Bar in Cascade Locks, said losing power even for a day or two is difficult for her and many other local businesses. In the event of a shutdown, she will lose both sales and ingredients.
“Most of it will be milk,” Sobaski said. “And it will be a total loss.”
But Sobaski said a fire could be much worse, and she’s more worried about losing her home or the cliff.
“I think the fire was one of the scariest things we’ve ever been through,” Sobasky said. “I think we all still have a lot of PTSD from it.”
