This past weekend, Communicare Health Centers celebrated their 50th anniversary at the Yolo County Fair.
In the year Founded and established by Dr. John H. Jones Davis Free Clinic in 1972, Communicare’s golden anniversary marks its humble beginnings as an all-volunteer organization with more than four hundred employees and $40,000 today. million budget, according to CommuniCare’s press release.
Guests mingled and reminisced with Senator Dodd and Assemblywoman Cecilia Aguiar Curry before the formal program last Saturday, which recognized Communicare’s 50 years of service.
CEO Dr. Melissa Marshall spoke about Communicare’s growth and accomplishments over the past five decades, including the tremendous amount of work that has been done during the Covid-19 pandemic, including the addition of new programs such as orthodontics and the opening of new sites.
Former Communicare employees Karen Larson, who served as director of behavioral health services, and Laura Hogan, who served as director of development and executive director, shared the impact Communicare has had on them personally and professionally.
Guests in attendance had a chance to share their favorite memories of Communicare, and the evening continued with dessert and dancing.
For 50 years, Communicare Health Centers has remained true to its mission and has a history of providing health care to all, regardless of ability to pay. From Dr. Jones’ dedication and compassion to all of the staff who continue to support their mission, Communicare provides comprehensive primary care medical and dental care, maternity services, behavioral health services, substance abuse treatment, health education, and cultural diversity in Yolo County and eastern Solano County, under Income, insurance and Medi-Cal outreach services to migrant and seasonal farm workers and their families.
“Perhaps Communicare has found its way through 50 years with a useful dose of naïveté, healthy optimism and a strong sense of justice,” Hogan said. “Regardless of the recipe, the shared vision and hard work of the Yolo community shines through on days like today, and I know Dr. Jones will be happy to mark 50 years of his vision of caring for everyone.”
Friends of CommuniCare, a 501c3, hosted the event, and was generously supported by Dignity Health, Kaiser Permanente and Sutter Health, all long-time CommuniCare partners.
