NEW ULM – The Brown County Board will consider Tuesday a request for three public health workers to attend the Minnesota CARES Wellness Workshop Oct. 6-7 in Minneapolis.
The conference is dedicated to thanking health care workers and promoting healing and wellness among the health care community to promote public health after the COVID-19 response.
“Our health care communities have cared for Minnesotans for more than two years during the pandemic, paying a high price for their physical and mental health.” Brown County Public Health Director Karen Moritz said.
“Employees report being tired, fatigued, stressed and stressed. “We are seeing shortages in almost all job categories.” Moritz added.
She said all department staff involved in the Covid-19 response were given the opportunity to select up to three staff members. Moritz said three employees — disease control and emergency preparedness coordinator Michelle Steinbeisser and maternal and child health nurses Michelle Miller and Lisa Compton — have expressed interest. It was not necessary to exclude anyone who wanted to attend.
Lodging, mileage and food expenses will be covered by Bron County’s federal COVID-19 grant.
The event is open to anyone in the healthcare community who has provided care or support services in hospitals, clinics, long-term care, pharmacies, emergency medicine, public health and others during the outbreak.
Many current and former healthcare leaders have donated their time and expertise to honor the healthcare community and provide evidence-based tools to improve safety and build resilience.
Workshop topics include Burnout and Self-Care: The Road to Health, From the Front Line to Forward, Finding Your Beat – The Beat of Life.
Session themes include active small group sessions, activities to support recovery from stressful events, activities that provide tools and techniques to help people reset their nervous systems at work and continue to function while taking care of themselves, and strengthening activities. Ability to withstand stress over time.
The board will consider a request for Brown County Public Health Educator/Planner Erin Krone-Schwab to attend the Minnesota Prevention Program Sharing Conference on October 20-21 in Duluth. Presented by the Minnesota Prevention Resource Center, the conference supports people involved in substance abuse prevention.
Krone-Schwab is responsible for planning, collaboration and coordination of the Chemical Health Action Team. At the conference, she will expand her knowledge of chemical health and meet with other prevention workers in the region to develop prevention ideas.
Accommodation, mileage and food expenses will be covered by 2022 budget funds for conference staff unable to attend. Opioid settlement dollars are another source of funding, if available.
The board meeting will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday, September 6 in the court commissioner’s room.
