Madison, Wis. (WMTV) – Culver founder Leah Culver and her three daughters are donating $1 million to expand mental health care at UnityPoint Health – Meriter.
The money pledged by Culver Friday will go toward expanding Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (CAP) at UnityPoint Health – Meriter to improve mental health services in South Central Wisconsin. Unity Point Health says the donation comes at a time when there is an unprecedented need and need for these services.
“It’s sad to know that there are so many vulnerable children in crisis. The need for compassionate mental health care for children and their families is critical, and we must all do what we can to help,” said CAP Medical Director Dr. Kathy Schmidt.
According to Meritor, the money from Culver will expand the CAP program to include a family support group, the creation of a four-hour treatment plan, emergency family resources and patient mobility scholarships, as well as two years of ongoing holistic therapy programs.
“This incredible gift will help us expand innovative and evidence-based treatment options to join children on their personal journey to health and wellness,” said Dr. Schmidt.
CAP officials said the funds will help providers care for children who are returning to class after suffering the effects of Covid-19 on schools.
