Canton, Mich. (September 26, 2022) – Trinity Health Michigan announced that David Spivey, longtime president of Trinity Health St. Mary’s Mercy Livonia and senior vice president of community health and wellness, has accepted a new role as interim president of Trinity Health St. Mary’s Georgia. Starting October 3rd.
Today’s announcement is part of a larger movement of executive leaders at Trinity Health National. Earlier this month, the selection of Montez Carter, president and CEO of St. Mary’s Health Care System in Athens, Georgia, as president and CEO of Trinity Health Care of New England, marked an important opening on the health system’s executive leadership team. . As one of Trinity Health’s most senior executives, Spivey agreed to provide leadership and stability to the Georgia health system as it searches for a new president.
“While I am saddened to lose Dave’s mentorship and leadership here in Michigan, I am excited to have him support our healing mission in new and meaningful ways,” said Rob Casalow, president and CEO of Trinity Health Michigan and Southeast Regions. “On behalf of the Michigan team that has come to know and respect Dave as a leader, colleague and friend, I would like to express our deep appreciation for his 22 years of service to the Livonia community and his many statewide community health and safety initiatives.”
Under Spivey’s leadership, Trinity Health Livonia has grown and prospered. The hospital has won the HealthGrades Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence, Thomson Reuters Top 100 Hospital Award and The Joint Commission and LeapFrog Group Awards for Quality and Safety respectively.
During his tenure, Spivey has been recognized for making forward-thinking capital investments, recruiting expert clinical and non-clinical teams, and mobilizing significant philanthropic support for hospital initiatives.
Specifically, in 2010, he led the hospital’s first graduate medical education program to 141 residents and oversaw six programs. That same year, Spivey oversaw the implementation of an acute emergency department dedicated to the specialized care of seniors 65 and older. The hospital’s senior ER is the first in the state of Michigan.
In the year In 2013, Spivey oversaw the construction and renovation of Livonia Hospital, resulting in a new state-of-the-art emergency department and conversion to all private patient rooms. In the year In 2018, he led the construction of a new chapel on the north side of the hospital campus, and in 2020 he was one of the leading executives involved in the construction of the Trinity Health IHA Medical Center – School Craft, which will provide comprehensive ambulatory care and physician services to the school. Another lasting legacy is his work establishing Mercy Primary Care as Trinity Health Services to continue serving Detroit’s East Side. The clinic has been a vital safety net for uninsured and underinsured adults since 2001.

Following Dave’s departure from Trinity Health Livonia, Shannon Striebich, president of Trinity Health Oakland and senior vice president of Trinity Health Michigan, will serve as interim president of the hospital in addition to her current duties. Stribich is well-known and experienced at Livonia Hospital, having previously served as the ministry’s interim president in 2019-2020 and as chief operating officer from 2014 to 2016.
