Fashion is often considered frivolous, to be seen and nothing more. But this mindset ignores the power of clothes to leave a lasting impression. Through the ages, it’s the way our stories are told, each decade marked by trends and styles created by talented designers worldwide. From the royal dressmakers of the 18th century, who used gowns to mark moments, to the designers of the 1990s who gave rise to a cultural era that included famous supermodels, fashion is the worldview of the time, interpreted. Some of the most creative people in the world.

They are visionaries of the past, present and future. They define what the culture looks like and how we are remembered. They don’t just make clothes; They are meant to narrate our lives visually.

Like any art form, some came first and others came later. In the spirit of celebrating fashion influence, we asked some of our favorite designers who they see as having a vision for style today and tomorrow.

Tanya Taylor

Tanya Taylor is a brand that puts women first. Of course, most fashion brands are worn by women, but the way the industry accepts color and individuality. She sees other designers who take a similar approach to celebrating people through clothing as the future of fashion.

Who are the designers you’re excited about right now?

Henry Zankov and Nila Hasan and the other of the brand. They have been part of my design team and are endlessly creative. They are always coming up with new, exciting ideas for art.

What specific needs or goals do you have for future fashion?

I’ve always believed that the future of fashion is inclusive, and I’m so proud that both Henry and Nila, in their own unique ways, have made it their mission to make everyone feel included in fashion. Zankov uses art, color and pattern to create uncomplicated, unique, gender-neutral knitwear pieces, while Nila adds an unexpected twist to traditional techniques, inspiring everyone to embrace who they are. I look forward to seeing how their creativity shines each season.

Christian Siriano

Christian Siriano has been praised for his unapologetically lavish work. It should not be a question or a visionary effort, but for a long time high-end fashion did not include plus size. For him, as a rule, anyone who builds on the established is the future, and that includes some of his peers.

Who is an up-and-coming designer you are excited about, and why?

I think what everyone is doing right now is very interesting. I still think so, Brandon [Maxwell]Prabal [Gurung]And [Joseph] Altuzarra as young designers although we started in 2008. I think what we’re all doing right now is great. Of course there is still room for the Calvins and Ralphs of the world. But I think the Proenzas will have their moment. We try not to take each other.

Mara Hoffman

Mara Hoffman did something risky with her brand. In the year In 2015, she stopped production – creating massive collections each season – despite the cost, to prioritize the planet and people in her designs. Since then, she has become a champion for fashion change, advocating for laws like the New York Fashion Law and technology like sustainable fiber printing. For her, the next class of fashion visionaries are the ones driving change.

Who is an up-and-coming designer you are excited about, and why?

I am inspired and inspired by my friend Sarah Nsicak, the founder of La Réunion. Not only is her work truly artistic, but her focus on circularity and minimizing waste is integral to her design practice. La Réunion is truly slow fashion – essential to future fashion.

What specific goals does the designer have for the future of fashion?

Designers must be problem solvers. For a long time, designers did not provide solutions; We were given freedom about ego and creation. But now we have a responsibility to solve problems and create strategic innovation, joining forces to rewrite the impact of fashion.
