During the busy Paris Fashion Week, it’s not easy to grab the headlines, yet that’s exactly what Loewe did.
In a Paris police cage, the Spanish leather house presented a show centered around a very simple element: the anthurium flower. With its distinctive waxy red foliage, it is unlike any other flower, bud, scent or other flower that is even remotely tender and romantic. Rather, it looks strange – even fake – which is why it’s on display at creative director Jonathan Anderson’s spring/summer 2023 show on Friday.
She accessorized with a pair of sandals – another left fielder – and a tight bra attached to a short A-line dress. It reached like a bralette on a long flowing dress and inspired the usual flowers that adorned a series of strapless dresses; Short forms standing away from the body.
Elsewhere, Anderson presented leather shirts and jumpers to oversized skirts, and tapped into his house skills to fit cotton-inspired leather skirts and high-waisted shorts.
And in typical Anderson fashion, he threw a “crash” on his immaculate offering, with two faces made of pixels. Like a low-quality image blown up too big, the clothes came with jagged edges and colored squares, just to remind us that we are all slaves to the matrix.
Elie Saab lean towards an exciting renewal
Lebanese designer Elie Saab presented his latest collection in the French capital on Saturday, Day Five.
Like many of his countrymen and women, Saab has had to endure a lot over the past three years, including losing his home in the horrific explosion in Beirut on August 4, 2020. Perhaps too much pain and unhappiness drove the design instead. Step into the blissful renewal of next year’s spring/summer season as the leaves blossom and bloom.
As the weight of winter gives way to the beauty of growth and new life, the entire Saab collection is an ode to this miraculous transformation. Fresh spring greens and flowers were scattered over long, flowing dresses, either as actual flowers in bright chartreuse or as splashes of color. More chlorophyll arrived as bursts of different shades of green, such as a one-shoulder grass green dress, or palazzo pants and a zesty lime cropped top.
Unashamedly beautiful, this was Saab at its best, given his desire to simply try to make the world a more beautiful place.
Hermes is so beautiful.
Above Hermes, which also showed on day five, offered a very different take on reality; Like a world full of long, weak, summer days.
Catering to high-net-worth individuals who aren’t happy with current trends, womenswear creative director Nadge Vanhee-Cybulski has once again presented beautiful pieces that are timeless in their essence.
This came with a buttery tunic, cut just right for off-the-shoulder wear, and high-waisted, skinny leather pants paired with a tight-fitting swimsuit. A perforated leather jacket with a shoulder strap also made its way down the runway.
He was dressed in cotton trousers, split and dusted with a duster coat and belted, platform shoes. Vanhy-Cibulski offered pops of color, like chiffon dresses in orange, peach and tangerine blocks, and even orange pants to break up the caramel and honey hues.
