BOISE – Open enrollment for health insurance in Idaho begins Oct. 15.
Idahoans can enroll in 2023 medical and dental coverage through Your Health Idaho. For the first time, Idahoans can apply for tax credits and health insurance in the same application and find out if they qualify in minutes. The new technology is designed to improve the health insurance buying experience for Idahoans.
With the addition of three new insurance carriers, Your Health Idaho offers 141 medical and 21 dental plans this open enrollment period. St. Luke’s Health Plan, Moda Health Plan, and The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America will launch exchange plans this year, giving Idahoans more health insurance choices than ever before. All counties will have at least four insurance carriers to choose from. Most of them will be six to eight.
“This is an exciting year for Your Health Idaho and our customers,” said Pat Kelly, YourHealth Idaho’s executive director. “Not only do we have three new insurance carriers and a larger number of plans, but we’re seeing more savings than ever with the enhanced tax credit. Plus, this year, Idahoans can find out about their tax credit within minutes of applying for health insurance coverage.”
Your Health Idaho recently launched new technology to enable real-time eligibility. Previously, tax credit eligibility was determined by the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare. Streamlining the process makes it easier and faster than ever for Idahoans to get coverage.
“Making Your Health Idaho a true one-stop shop is a big step for Idahoans,” Kelly said. “If you’ve already applied and are overwhelmed by the process, we encourage you to try again. Now it’s easier than ever,” he said.
Enhanced tax credits, available only with plans purchased through Your Health Idaho, act as an immediate discount that significantly lowers monthly premiums. Many Idahoans who didn’t think they would qualify now may. More than 85% of enrollees qualify for tax credits, and one in three pay $0 in monthly health insurance premiums. For example, a family of four in Bannock County with an annual income of $85,000 could be covered by a $0 per month base plan. Someone in Twin Falls County can get an entry-level plan for just $4 a month. And a couple in their 60s earning $60,000 in Ada County can be covered for about $300 a month in a mid-level plan.
“Many of our customers once believed that affordable health insurance was not an option for them,” Kelly said. With improved tax credits available only through Your Health Idaho, more Idahoans are finding health insurance more affordable than ever. If you have not qualified in previous years, now is the time to check again.”

Idahoans looking for health insurance for the coming year have until Dec. 15 to choose their plan. Your Health Idaho urges Idahoans not to wait until the last minute to apply. Coverage for selected plans during open enrollment begins January 1, 2023.
