Miramar, Fla. – The family of Yvonne McCalla has been praying for justice after police officers found her dead in her Miramar apartment on June 14, 2004.
After 18 years, the McCalla family hopes new DNA technology will help investigators solve the cold case.
“The forensics side gives us that final piece of the puzzle that we’re always looking for,” said Miramar Detective Mark Moretti, now assigned to the case.
Moretti said the evidence points to the 37-year-old single mother of a 12-year-old daughter being the victim of a premeditated murder, and that crime lab technicians re-examining the evidence will provide answers.
McCalla’s older sisters, Olive Smith and Beverly Woolery, said they are still hoping someone will come forward with anything they know about her brutal and unexpected murder.
“It was beyond our imagination that someone would do that,” Smith said. “Who will do it?”
Woolery’s plea: “I’m hoping someone knows something and is willing to come forward.”
