Fashion at the Players Championship includes joggers, hoodies and more

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — There’s a bill coming to golf.

No, it’s not that LIV Golf is flawed or anything like that, but if Sam Ryder and his purple jogger pants are any indication, the latest trend in golf fashion is about to catch fire.

Ryder rocked social media in January when he sported purple joggers during the Farmers Insurance Open.

While he won the support of some, he drew the ire of others, including Phil Mickelson and John Daly, both of whom criticized the joggers worn by Ryder when he led the race for large sections.

Ryder isn’t the first person to sport a distinct golf fashion trend. In the year In 2003, Tiger introduced the turtleneck shirt that Woods continued to wear throughout his storied career.

The late Doug Saunders pushed the boundaries of fashion with colorful clothes. He wears the same color from head to toe, with a variety of brightly colored shoes to match his pants and sweater.

And before golfers sported Nike, Titleist, and Callaway caps, recent Hall of Fame inductee Tom Weisskop wore the cabbie hat.

There’s always a trend in the world of golf, and while joggers may or may not be associated with most golfers, something else is starting to take hold.

Hoodies.

Lightweight jackets and pullovers that can keep athletes warm and still allow full range of motion.

Not to mention how cool they look.

“I’m 5-9 years old and have short legs, so I don’t think[joggers]look great. I like them. But I don’t mind,” Colin Morikawa said earlier this week. I think, and everybody loved the hoodie and now we’re into joggers. It’s a style right. It’s a trend. I think a lot of people own joggers. I think they’re very comfortable to wear. I just, I don’t think I fit that style or that mold, and some Men can pull it off.

Joggers aren’t sold in stores, but hats are the latest product to fly off the shelves.

“We don’t have joggers and we haven’t seen much interest in them. But I like it when the players take risks when it comes to fashion,” said Leah Ossol, director of merchandising for the PGA Tour. We are finding that men and women love the latest fashion hats.

Keep an eye out for your favorite golfer in a sports hat if the temperature allows it, and don’t count out the joggers just yet because it can stick to those who can pull it off.
