Georgia Tech football: Can’t complain about a win

Hey that was great. In the year It’s his first road win against a ranked opponent since 2016 and his first win against an FBS opponent in ten tries. that’s right. Prior to this win, the Jackets had lost nine straight against FBS opponents. Nine times. And unlike Ferris Bueller, we have no way to hack the NCAA record books to change that. (Maybe we will, but I can’t imagine it lasting.) Going in tonight I was expecting 1-4, but we’re officially 2-3. I will take it. For most of Saturday’s game, the Yellow Jackets’ defense gave the crowd confidence that the game was under control regardless of the score. The offense, on the other hand, was extremely inconsistent. Red zone performance will improve significantly over the week, although some of those FGs could easily be TDs. This time we will put points on the board, but if our goal is to win a lot, we have to find a way to score consecutive touchdowns… I hope. Also, if it wasn’t for Charlie Thomas’ one-man swing party, this game could have easily gone the other way. In general, it is confirmed that it can be done tonight. We can win.

I mean seriously…this team especially with all the crazy stuff we in the media write about and the coach getting fired and all that stuff…nothing happened. There’s no question – Pitt lost a lot of talent in the offseason (Kenny Pickett to the NFL, Jordan Addison to USC – just to name a few), but it’s still a great team led by a great coach in Pat Narduzzi. And even though only 15 fans attended the game, a conference road win is huge. After all, they’ve got our number recently. This marks our first win over Pitt since 2017. Getting over a hump like this does wonders for team confidence. The game was an absolute country mile, but there were many positives in the build-up. Jeff Sims seemed to find his legs (and his voice) in the fourth quarter. EJ Jenkins made a late play in the red zone to show once again how dangerous he can be. Hassan Hall was a wrecking ball and I am an amateur poet. I mentioned Charlie Thomas earlier – he was man of the match and he only played one half. I have to hold back hope, but you can convince me this team will find a way to win four more games… Why would I do that to myself?

Brent Key’s offensive lines against Tech have been nothing to write home about up to this point, but they showed up against a strong front seven tonight. Tech averaged 5.4 yards per rush, largely influenced by some big runs late in the game. But they kept banging on and you have to give them credit. Speaking of Brent Key and the coaching situation – who knows what will happen after the regular season is over, but I’m putting all doubts to rest for now. I probably should have slept on this win before I put that in writing, but his calm demeanor on the sideline and his emotional post-match interview made me a Brent Key believer. Someone came up with the easiest way to say this – Killiver. caught up. I’ve never doubted that Collins loves his players, so it makes sense that the assistant head coach shares his feelings for these guys, but he loves these guys. And GT loves it. I understand we didn’t win the Super Bowl VACI, but watching him get a little choked up after a hard fought game on a tough weekend gives me confidence that he’s the man for the (temporary) job. In terms of coaching, we don’t know anything except that we won, but we only made 4 penalties. That’s an improvement (per game average against FBS opponents). oh We didn’t let Pete block any points. We’ll see how it goes, but I like how it started.

Next up is one-loss Duke, back home, under afternoon skies. I’m sure they’ll be looking for revenge after last year’s last-second draw but hopefully we’ll get a bit of a boost after this win. See you at the Flats. Go jackets.
