Cowboy football
still water Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy OSU is 4-0 overall and 1-0 in Big 12 play after a 36-25 win over Waco No. 16 Baylor and met with the media at his weekly luncheon. Gundy discussed the win and the 7th-ranked Cowboys’ matchup with Texas Tech. Here is some of what he said:
Opening statement:
“Back. We had a good workout last night, and of course, the boys are off today. Lots of work and preparation and film study ahead. We’re looking forward to a good week of preparation and getting ready for Texas Tech.”
The young OSU secondary is improving in preparation for Texas Tech’s air attack offense:
“They’re getting a little better every week. We’re definitely a long way from finishing the product. I’m happy with the progress we’re making on defense. We have young linebackers and a lot of young kids in the secondary. We played well. We gave up a couple big plays last game, but overall They’re coming in, this is going to be a different challenge this week, this team is throwing 60 times a game. Defense: Last week we played a more power running, passing, passing team. [Texas Tech] They play fast, stretch, throw 60 times and try to get the ball out to the plate. Your question is valid and it’s a slightly different approach this week.”
A high-speed offense like Texas Tech’s plays on defense, especially the need for depth on the defensive line.:
“That’s always important. The good news is that we don’t have anybody who plays more than 42, maybe 43 times a game, which is great. We want it to continue that way. We’re going into a game where you can play 100 plays on both sides of the ball, and they’re playing fast. This depth can be important.
As they prepare to face a first-year head coach:
“Offensively and defensively, we’ve played a lot of games like we did. In most cases, coaches prepare based on what they see and try to avoid chasing ghosts. Sometimes I feel for head coaches. From experience and what you’re talking about: As we’ve talked about the last two weeks, those who want to roll the dice on fourth down and Guys who want to play outfield, a little different character.
Oklahoma State 3 on consistencyrd Low Defense Over Last Three Seasons:
“I think you know Robert (Allen) talked about our depth on the defensive line, I think that helps. Our pass rush was good, not great, it needs to improve, but when you’re hot you have a chance to press guys. The way the game is going right now is as important as what you can do.” “I think. So, if you can somehow disrupt the standard operation of the quarterback on every play, you’ve got a better chance of being a good third-down team.”
In his performance against Bayer in the attacking line:-
“We were good, not great, but better than we were in the championship game. That’s one thing I mentioned after the game and after that game we talked about as an offensive team, our offense was my offense and the offense of the offensive staff. We had a plan for that because we weren’t better prepared, but how much in front of them. “We didn’t give them enough credit. We tried to prevent that from happening again. We were better in this game against a good team. Up front. In my opinion, they are very difficult to catch between the tackles. I’m glad we improved there.”
When a punt team beats opponents near their own goal line:
“We were really good last year and everyone except (Braylin) Presley is back there running and covering, but that’s what he’s built for. Tom (Hatton) is a year older and more mature. He has a better feel for him. We’re lucky with his experience and The people we describe will find it good.”
In Texas Tech’s pass rush:
They are doing a great job rushing the passer, I watched a couple games against them this morning and I don’t know if I’m ready to see that. They loaded them both at Kansas State and Texas. They just made some games on them. In particular, Kansas State’s quarterbacks do a good job of being able to run and run a bunch of plays and get away, so we’re going to see a different defense this week than we did last week on offense, and they’re going to go. They’re going to come after us, hit, block, twist, throw, rush three, rush fourth, bring a safety and do a lot of different things and press us. We have to prepare for a lot of pressure and a lot of pressure. Blink, that’s not what we saw at all compared to last week.
